I've been really busy these past few weeks!  I'm getting over a cold that i've had for the past few days too.  I've been working at another camp and last week i was with 2 year olds.  That.. was certainly a learning experience.  But they're also the criminals of giving me my cold!  This week i'm with the older 4 - 6 year olds.  I'm so bummed that only one kid out of the 20 i remember last year remembers me!  But she's sweet i'm so glad she remembers me.

But here are some bears i drew last week! :)  I've been on an animal high, just trying to stylize animals more and try out shapes, but I need to keep drawing people.

I am also going on a trip to Colorado this Friday so posts will be on the low side until i return.  I'll be drawing tons though.  I hope everyone is having a great summer! :)

Success stories

This week i had the pleasure to be a volunteer counselor at Free Arts' MACCamp which is a camp for kids that are, shall we say, less fortunate than most kids their age.  These kids live in group homes because their parents have done bad things and got caught doing it, or have abused the children and are not allowed to see them.

It has been a life changing experience and I am so happy i got the opportunity to work there for the week and spend time with the kids.  They were the most polite, sweetest, most adorable kids i have ever met.  They have all grown over the week and all had their own success stories but i thought i would share a few with you that really made my week special.

So there was this girl who was so cute and super shy the first day i got there.
If you talked to her or just said hi her face would be red as a tomato.  She was so cute!  She would do everything but she would kind of not want to talk to people or do anything with people, so she would do things with the volunteers or counselors.  When we went to dance she didn't want to dance at all, so i asked her to dance with me and she just kind of bunched up and turned red and i told her she was so cute and she said thank you and danced with me a little bit.  She was a great sport.
throughout the week she was getting to be more outgoing and talking with other campers and everything.  Today was our showcase or like.. where all the groups got together and did some sort of show and tell.  Our group was the blue group, or blue angels, and we were doing our chants and everything and the counselor from the red group came over and she just burst out.
She was loud and proud and was a sassy little girl.  But she was still polite and adorable as ever!  She just found her voice and danced and had fun and it was great.

My drawings are getting worse right now wow, i'm sorry i'm pretty tired from the entire week.

But these kids were so sweet and i am going to miss each and every one of them.  They gave the best hugs and were so fun and polite and just amazing.
I just have one question now

I can't wait to go back!

A gift for a best friend

My best friend is in Florida right now and she had a bit of an accident with a surf board, i've been freaking out for the past few hours hoping she was ok.  And she's doing fine now, i'm so glad, so i made her this gift!
Feel better Anna, you're still the most fabulous looking person around! <3

Some character Designs

Really quick monster designs and a kid for an animation i want to make some day.  It's called The Monsters Under the Bed.  I'm still working on the story a bit, it's not going to be long though.  There will be more monsters and i'll probably redesign these more, but yeah enjoy some really rough designs :)

New Banner

A cheetah!  I haven't drawn anything digital in so long, it's so good to have a tablet in my hands again.

Dragons, and birds, and dancers oh my!

watercolor pencil dragon i did in my sketchbook, i'll probably add more to him later

Some pastel birds that were going to be for my portfolio but i realized that copying a photo wasn't allowed.  I kind of suspected, besides i don't like copying pictures, but this was still good practice!

Oil painting of two dancers that i'm working on, also from a photo so.. yeah bummer.  Again good practice with oils though

I am currently working on two new pieces for my portfolio, completely original and definitely a lot more fun for me to do than copying pictures.

Run dog run!

Here's an animation i made last year in november i think.  It was a clean sketch that i was going to finish and color but didn't have time.  It's a shame i can't finish it at all now that i don't have flash anymore.  I miss animating i really do.

I dubbed these gestures as not entirely beautiful, so i added orange to them.  I think they're a little more tolerable now.  I need to practice gestures and drawing in pen more!
